The movie cut the subplots re: Sonny's girlfriend and Johnny Fontaine, but other than that, the movie is REMARKABLY similar to the book. A movie simply cannot include everything contained in a novel, but if you compare the sections that are common to both the book and movie, it is quite clear that in "The Godfather," they are very, very similar. Of course, you don't do yourself any favors when the splash photo puts Fredo's head on Arnold Schwarzenegger's body. I don't think you can have Omar piss on Stringer in that scene because Brother was there. If you want the audience to think Omar did something out of character, then you would need another character who knows Omar well to say something of the fact that Omar went crazy or whatever.

Remember that The Wire is cyclical. The war broke Avon like the joint broke Cutty. The game has to have someone willing to run the risks and Avon isn't that guy anymore. I'm a firm believer in only interpreting what is obvious that the author left ambiguous. In this case I think it's clear that Tony made at least a token effort to keep this guy out of the game but once the line was crossed Tony felt contempt for him and subsequently saw him as just another target. I don't think he tried to hook him.

cineranter I find your channel duels as prop for the sopranos (which I love). every time you give other shows a go it comes across as a "why the sopranos is better than X" video. I feel you go into other shows looking to prove the sopranos is better and that bias tints your experience with the show. you don't give it the depth it requires, you'd analyse a minute detail in the sopranos and give several alternate meanings to magnify the genius of it (rightfully so) but look at that same detail in another show and take it on face value. nitpick (wrongly at times) at details to support your confirmation bias. I found you've done this with breaking bad and now peaky blinders. p.s I love the channel
